The United States Men's National Team represents the country in various international soccer tournaments. The USMNT is controlled by the U.S Soccer Federation and is an associate member of the FIFA and CONCACAF.
The national team was originally formed in 1930 when the US was one of seven nations invited to join what eventually became the FIFA World Cup. It has now progressed well beyond the point where it can be considered as a competitive force. Since then there have been additions and subtractions to the team but it remains strong at the top level.
There are many tournaments that the team competes in, including the Gold Cup and the Copa America. The USMNT has qualified for every Gold Cup since it was first organized. However, it is not an automatic qualifier for the tournament because the team must defeat Panama in the championship game. It is expected that the team will go on to win the Gold Cup and earn a spot in next year's tournament.
In the last two Gold Cups, the USMNT has earned a spot in the quarter finals. They beat Jamaica in the third place match and the team defeated El Salvador in the final. It may take a great performance in the final against Mexico to earn a trip to the World Cup in Brazil. Although the team is expected to make it out of their group, it is doubtful if they can make it all the way into the quarter finals.
For the most part, the players on the USMNT roster are well known for their ability on the field. The team is expected to have some very talented individuals on their roster and some players may need to be called up before others to get more playing time. These players include forwards Jozy Altidore, Eddie Johnson, DaMarcus Beasley, and Clint Dempsey who all have a lot of experience playing in international soccer.
Jozy Altidore is the highest scoring American soccer player ever. He was named the MLS MVP this year after scoring a record breaking 16 goals. He was named captain for the team in 2020 but he is also the best left back in the league. He is also a very versatile player and has played both right back and center back.
Eddie Johnson, DaMarcus Beasley, and DaMarcus Beasley have also played for Jamaica at the Gold Cup. Johnson is also the leading goal scorer in the tournament with four goals. and Beasley is tied for the team lead with three assists.
The next time the team will play in the tournament is in the quarter finals is in the Copa America against Chile and Argentina. The team has a chance to redeem themselves in that game as well. They will meet the team that eliminated them from the quarter finals, Mexico, in the semis. Expectations are very high for the team as they head into the tournament as the favorite to win the title.
Many of the squad players are not familiar with each other on the field. This means that they will have to learn how to play together and become familiar with each other off the field as well. Some of the players like DaMarcus Beasley will have to be more vocal on the field to help his team mates. Beasley's ability to make things happen off the field is one of his greatest assets.
One of the reasons the team is expected to be successful in this tournament is because of their depth on the roster. They can call upon different combinations of players and bring in different skills to the table. This will allow them to create different ways to attack the opposing defense. during the game.
The good thing about this team is that they are also experienced. With the amount of players they have and the talent they have, the team should be able to perform at its best during the tournament. It is possible for the team to go into the semi finals as one of the favorites. But it does depend on what happens in the quarter finals and what team they face in the semis.
If the team wants to get a good performance at the Olympics, they have to do their job right. They have to prove they deserve to be on the team and make it out of their group. They have to perform well in the quarter finals and then show up in the semis to win the gold.
