If you were to look at a few NFL free agents that are not on the NFL's roster this week, you might think that they aren't getting any offers and the player signing them won't be able to get paid. If you read the fine print though, you can find out that these players are signing for less money than they would receive in a full time role, and some of these players are actually playing better than some of the starting players on their respective teams.
As an example, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin was two of the first NFL free agents to sign their deals this week and both received more money in a contract than the players that are on the roster. That is because their teams are giving them less money to play with and because the team doesn't have to use the salary cap to make the contracts work. These players have also shown themselves as great players this year, and as a result the owners of the teams signed them to contracts. They don't want to cut either player after they have done so well for the team.
If you are an NFL player looking for a new contract, but you haven't seen the offer that your agent has given you yet, you should check and see if it will be enough for you. Many players who do not receive a huge amount of money on their contracts still prefer to play for their teams, even if they aren't receiving a large contract.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the players who get the biggest contracts are usually the ones that are the best football players. These guys are generally very good at what they do, but their contracts don't pay as much because they are good at what they do. If you aren't a good football player, you might be able to get a small contract, but if you are a good player, you might get a large deal.
Other people who might be signing NFL free agents for smaller amounts of money are those who are injured or who need to take care of other financial commitments. If you don't want to risk the chance that you will get cut, you may be better off signing for a small contract so that you can get some time to heal. or get paid for your injury while you heal.
The other thing you can do if you want to go into the NFL without the same amount of cash that you would get if you sign for a bigger deal, is to sign for a small deal with another team, or with an NFL Football league that you have never heard of. In other words, don't sign with the New York Giants just because that you think you have to. – or your agent – have to.
